Dubai wears its superlatives as civic policy. The tallest building, the largest mall, the biggest fountain, an indoor ski slope in the desert — the city has spent a single generation turning sand into a skyline designed to make you look twice, and it works.
It helps to understand what you are looking at: a place that bet everything on being the newest version of itself, over and over, and largely won. Behind the spectacle is a crossroads where a third of the planet can land within a few hours’ flight.
Know the local rules
For all its gloss, Dubai runs on conservative law. Dress modestly away from the beach and pool, keep public affection to a minimum, and don’t drink outside licensed venues. These are not suggestions — they are enforced, and the penalties are real. Respect them and the city is extraordinarily easy; ignore them and it is not.
